National Different Coloured Eyes Day

Suggested caption. It’s National Different Coloured Eyes Day. Today we’re celebrating one of nature’s most unique and fascinating features, heterochromia, when someone has two different coloured eyes. This rare condition affects less than 1% of the population. It can be present from birth or develop later in life. There are different types: Complete heterochromia – two entirely different eye colours. Sectoral heterochromia – part of one eye is a different colour. Central heterochromia – a different colour around the pupil. While it often doesn’t affect vision, any changes in eye colour should always be checked by an eye care professional, just to be safe. Photo by Banesa.
