Background to Eyeplan

Eyeplan Ltd was formed in 1997 after the two VAT battles fought by Directors Simon Mills and Fraser Robertson in the 1990’s. After these cases were won it was clear that a new way needed to be found to charge for care and to secure the loyalty of patients. The idea for Eyeplan was initially piloted in the Eyetech group of practices in north Somerset and launched to a somewhat sceptical independent sector in 1998.

Eyeplan initially took a while to gain market penetration, resistance to change and scepticism holding independent opticians back from the leap of faith that was required. Slowly but surely however momentum was growing as more and more evidence supported the Eyeplan Business Model.

Eyeplan has grown significantly in the last few years and in 2008 out grew its offices and invested significantly in expansion and refurbishment of its building. Eyeplan is also investing heavily in new software systems developed specifically for the optics market.

Now 10 years old, Eyeplan is very proud to be generating millions of pounds per year in fee income for independent opticians with tens of thousands of individual members across the UK enjoying the benefits of care from an independent optical practice.
